Lawrence Tawneven Lemon has an extensive background in performing arts which has afforded him a number of awards and life commemorative achievements, including special recognition given by the Governor of Ohio for outstanding accomplishments in the area of Fine Arts.
Lawrence also has a passion for education and is a continuing student of the arts, technology, and arts integration. With his educationand experience Mr. Lemon has served as Director of Arts/Arts Integration at several schools, programs, and educational institutions; and is currently Director of Arts and Expressions for Clarity Creative Institute and serves on The Visionary Leaders Institutes: TECH21 Team.
Born in Columbus Ohio, Mariel E Melendez was raised in Puerto Rico with a different perspective and viewpoint on life. Coming from a family of educators, civil servants and a blue collared background, the emphasis has always been on helping others achieve their goals. Learning Classical Ballet at an early age, thus falling in love with the art, she was invited to perform and teach at Ballet Municipal of Puerto Rico. At the same time Ms. Melendez pursued her B.A. in Anthropology at University of Puerto Rico. From there she taught Advanced Placement Spanish and History at Secundaria Montessori of Puerto Rico. Later, she moved to New York City to continue her advancement in the performing arts. She currently resides in Columbus, Ohio as an educational consultant, freelance interpreter, performer and teacher.
Javier’s experience and expertise in effective student and community engagement / empowerment comes from more than 10 years of work with the Youth to Youth International Program both in the United States and abroad as a Youth Program Coordinator. In 2003 he was awarded the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Developing Leaders in Reducing Substance Abuse Fellowship and is a graduate of the Ray Miller Institute for Change and Leadership. He also works on projects focused on health and wellness in urban communities with MEE Productions Inc., one of the successful / impactful communications, research, and marketing firms in the world.
In 2008 he wrote his first book entitled “Look In My Mirror”. It’s a very special book for Fathers and Daughters that has taken the world by storm! His follow up is an exciting project for youth and adults entitled From This Moment On: Personal Reminders for Massive Success at Home, at School, at Work, and in the Shower!
Lindsay Western, Program Manager, is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a B.A. in Sociology. She has worked in the field of After School Programing for the last nine school years with the Educational Council KIDSConnect Program. Lindsay specializes in curriculum building, event planning, and service learning. She enjoys working with Clarity Creative and Visionary Leaderships Institute working with amazing educators and students. She also serves on the board for Partnerships Make a Difference, the Planning Committee for the Off to a Great Start Conference and is a member of Community Partners of Southern Franklin County.
Rachel Ward, a Dayton, Ohio native, is a servant leader with a passion for inspiring young people, supporting families and educational institutes, training and mentoring. In 2009, she graduated from Spelman College, in Atlanta, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Rachel is proud to serve as a youth development professional in many capacities, including program development, directing, and grant writing. Additionally, she is a consultant with Clarity Creative Institute, where she loves to combine a love for technology with educational services.
Motivated by the belief that all children deserve a fair start, Rachel spends much of her time working towards and serving where youth are provided with superior holistic service opportunities. The youth that Ward is most concerned for are those in low-income, urban communities with little or underutilized resources.
Most recently, Ward was accepted into DePaul University’s School of Public Service, and will complete a Masters of Public Service Management in 2016.
Darlene Scheid is an afterschool enthusiast and has great passion for child advocacy. She holds degrees in Agriculture Education and Political Science from The Ohio State University and has over ten years experience in youth development. Darlene believes in the power of project-based learning and positive mentoring relationships. She specializes in team building and leadership development, community connecting, and mentoring. Darlene serves as an Ohio Afterschool Ambassador and is involved with Community Partners of Southern Franklin County, Ohio Afterschool Network, the Off to a Great Start Conference planning committee, and the Mentoring Center of Central Ohio’s Advisory Board.
NEXT IS NOW™ Youth Innovation and Digital Media Technology Conference is presented by San Francisco’s Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs, Department of Children, Youth & Families and Clarity Creative Institute.
